Everybody in this world is different from one another. But do you know that understanding differences can help you better manage your money?
As we grow up,we gradually develop a set of our own values or beliefs. These are influenced by society, our family, the education we receive and so on.Once this value system is set up,it's not easy to change later in life.
Financial experts say that everyone also has their own belief of how to manage their finances. This is part of our value system and it has a great impact on the way we look after our money.
According to our different values, experts put us in three categories. They are:the ant,the cricket and the snail.
The ant works first
Just like ants who work heart and soul in summer in order to store food for winter, these people don't care about enjoying the moment. They work very hard and save money they earn so that they can enjoy life when they get old and retire. The ant loves to save but they could make more out of their money if they were willing to invest in some funds and stocks with low risk.
The cricket fun first
The cricket wants to enjoy everything now and doesn't think too much about the future. They even borrow money when they really want something. Many young people now belong to this group. These people have little savings. When they get old, they might have problems. They should learn to save and buy insurance.
The snail lives under pressure
The snail refers to people who make life difficult for themselves. They take big long term loans from the bank in order to buy things such as luxury houses. They are happy to take big loans even though they are not sure whether they can afford it.This can cause problems in the future. They should plan more carefully.
1..People with the character of the snail would like to __________.
A.enjoy life at the moment without thinking much about the future
B.put work before everything else
C.live a luxury life at all costs
D.take the risk of investing a large sum of money
2.Our beliefs and values are affected by the following except __________.
A.society B.our family
C.education D.money
3.This passage mainly talks about __________.
A.the spending nature of people
B.the relation between man and insects
C.the insects in nature
D.the problems with dealing with money
4.Which of the following has the character that the author prefers?

C.The snail D.None of the above

Hu Li’s heart sank due to the color of the air. Driving 140 kilometers from Tianjin City to Beijing last week, she held her breath as the air became a charcoal grey haze (炭灰色的陰霾) . The 39-year-old businesswoman has lived in Beijing for a decade, and this past month, she said, brought the worst air pollution she has ever seen. It gave her husband a cough and left her seven-year-old daughter housebound (足不出戶) . “My husband as well as I is working here, so we have no choice,” she said. “But if we had a choice, we’d like to escape from Beijing.”
The extended heavy pollution over the last month, which caused punishment in return for a day last week-called the “airpocalypse” by Internet users-has largely changed the way that Chinese think about the country’s air. On one day, pollution levels were 30 times higher than levels considered safe by the World Health Organization (WHO). Flights were cancelled. Roads were closed. One hospital in east Beijing reported they had treated more than 900 children for breathing issues. Bloomberg found that for most of January, Beijing’s air was worse than that of an airport smoking area.
The smog’s most threatening aspect is its high concentration (濃度) of PM

Would it surprise you to learn that, like animals, trees communicate with each other and pass on their wealth to the next generation?
UBC Professor Simard explains how trees are much more complex than most of us ever imagined. Although Charles Darwin thought that trees are competing for survival of the fittest, Simard shows just how wrong he was. In fact, the opposite is true: trees survive through their co-operation and support, passing around necessary nutrition “depending on who needs it”.
Nitrogen(氮)and carbon are shared through miles of underground fungi(真菌) networks, making sure that all trees in the forest ecological system give and receive just the right amount to keep them all healthy. This hidden system works in a very similar way to the networks of neurons(神經(jīng)元)in our brains, and when one tree is destroyed, it affects all.
Simard talks about “mother trees”, usually the largest and oldest plants on which all other trees depend. She explains how dying trees pass on the wealth to the next generation, transporting important minerals to young trees so they may continue to grow. When humans cut down “mother trees” with no awareness of these highly complex “tree societies” or the networks on which they feed, we are reducing the chances of survival for the entire forest.
“We didn't take any notice of it .” Simard says sadly. “Dying trees move nutrition into the young trees before dying, but we never give them chance.” If we could put across the message to the forestry industry, we could make a huge difference towards our environmental protection efforts for the future.
1.What would be the best title for the passage?
A. Old Trees Communicate Like Humans
B. Young Trees Are In Need Of Protection
C. Trees Contribute To Our Society
D. Trees Are More Complex Than You Think
2.In Simard's opinion, trees _______
A. compete for survival
B. protect their own wealth
C. depend on each other
D. provide support for dying trees
3.We can learn from the passage that____________.
A. “mother trees” are usually of no use to other trees.
B. Charles Darwin had the same thought as Simard.
C. if “mother trees” are cut down, the survival for the entire forest will be affected.
D. people know much about the complex “tree societies”.
4.The underlined word “it” in the last paragraph refers to_________.
A. how “tree societies” work
B. how trees grow old
C. how forestry industry develops
D. how young trees survive

As the longer life and rapid decrease in the labor?age population are expected, extending the retirement age(推遲退休年齡) is a wise choice for the government. This is why at the Third Plenum (全會) of the 18th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (中國共產(chǎn)黨十八屆三中全會)it was agreed that there should be a study on the subject.
It is undoubtedly necessary for the government to adjust its policies to meet the challenge of an increasingly aging society. According to the government, China’s senior citizens above the age of 60 will reach 200 million, about 14.8 percent of the population, by the end of this year, and the figure is expected to grow to 248 million by the year of 2020 and more than 400 million by 2050, when they will account for 30 percent of the population. Meanwhile, extending the retirement age will result in several benefits — slowing the rapid increase of the retired, reducing the rapid decline in experienced workers and keeping the labor?age population at a considerable size for stable economic development.
However, before the policy is drawn up there will need to be thorough research, so there can be careful consideration of the interests of all parties to make sure that the new policy does not harm the interests of workers in different jobs.
There are 112 million workers who do heavy physical labor and may not be willing to put off their retirement to a later age. And the opinions of government employees and other white?collar workers will also need to be listened to before a policy is introduced to extend their retirement to a later age.
No doubt it will be impossible to please all, but it should be possible to make the policy acceptable to the most. Anyway, any extensions that will hopefully help reduce the negative influences of our increasingly aging society also need to be fair.
1.The text mainly tells us________.
A. China is going to enter an aging society
B. All people agree to accept the policy
C. Extending the retirement age will bring about multiple benefits
D. China has planned to extend the retirement age
2.Which of the following is TRUE?
A. China’s old people above the age of 50 will be about 14.8 percent of the population.
B. Extending the retirement age may contribute to the economic development of China.
C. Extending the retirement age may reduce the experienced workers.
D. There will be about 248 million elders by 2050.
3.What can be inferred from the text?
A. All the workers will be pleased with the policy.
B. The white?collar workers go against the policy.
C. There can be many difficulties in extending the retirement age.
D. The government should please all so as to give up the policy.
