★Read the directions carefully. This may help you not make careless mistakes.
★If there is time, look through the whole test quickly. If you can, take short notes to help you
remember answers that come to your mind on the test or answer sheet (紙). But remember to ask if that
is allowed!
★Answer questions in the right order(順序): 1. Answer easy questions first to build confidence (信

answer. If you still can't tell the right one, believe the first one that comes to your mind. If you need to
answer some questions, give short descriptions of your ideas and then put them in order.

There are many things we need to know that we don't learn at school. For example, if we want to use
our money wisely, we need to shop carefully. We need to know how to compare (比較) the prices of things
in different shops. We need to be able to compare the quality of different brands (商標(biāo)). We need to know
how to make reasonable choices when we shop.
Knowing how to make such choices is a life skill. And we need these skills if we are to lead useful and
happy lives.
Some of these choices are small. For example, will I take an apple for lunch or a pear? Will I get the bus
to school today or will I walk? Will I wear the red T-shirt or the blue one to the movies? Other choices are
more important. For example, will I eat healthy food for lunch or will I eat junk food because it's delicious?
Will I work hard in all my classes or will I only work hard in the classes I enjoy? We make decisions like
this every day.
Making the wrong choices can result in unhappiness. We have to realize that the choices we make can
affect the rest of our lives. Just as importantly, our choices can also affect other people. The next time you
decide to waste time in class, play a joke on someone or talk loudly at the movies, think this: Who else does
your choice affect?

Some children are born bosses. They have a need to make decisions, manage their environment and lead rather than follow. Too much rule in the hands of the young isn’t healthy for children or the family. Family expert John Taylor says, “Children have secret feelings of weakness. They are always trying to feel safe. ”It’s the parents’ duty-not the child’s-to provide safety.
When a “boss child’’ doesn’t learn limits(限制)at home, troubles will appear outside the family. The child may have trouble obeying(遵守)teachers, for example, or keeping friends. It can be pretty lonely as the top dog if no one likes your ruling ways.
Bossy kids are often unusually bright. Their parents need to be especially careful to manage them. Bossy kids usually work more on the mother. It’s important for both parents to know their child’s weakness, to agree on key rules and to back each up.
Even as you try to be kind—to a point—don’t give up your parental ruling post. Instead, stand your ground by using body language that tells your child who the boss is.
Good manners are important to family. Show a child by example how to ask for something rather than shout orders. Try asking your child to do things that are not too difficult. Then reward(獎勵)him with a hug(擁抱)and words such as “Thank you. I like it when you listen to me.” Over time good manners will become associated(聯(lián)結(jié))with pleasure.
【小題1】Is the passage mainly about how to teach children?
【小題2】Do boss children usually feel lonely or have a lot of friends?
【小題3】Which of the parents should know their child’s weakness?
【小題4】Why is it important to teach children good manners?
