閱讀下列短文,從每題后所給的A B C D四個(gè)選項(xiàng)中,選出一個(gè)最佳選項(xiàng),并涂在答題卡上。

One night I was sitting in my kitchen half-listening as 15-year-old brother Tommy fought with 12-year-old brother Kevin. I didn’t pay attention when Kevin charged up the stairs with the hurt on his face.
About 20 minutes later, as I was walking upstairs I heard Kevin crying inside the bathroom. I knocked on the door and asked, “Hey Kevin, do you want to talk?”
    No response.
I tried again, “Why don’t you come out of there?”
    No response again.
So, joking around, I grabbed some index cards (索引卡) and a pencil and wrote, “If you don’t want to talk, we can write notes to each other.”
An hour later I was sitting on the floor outside the bathroom with stacks of (堆積的) index cards in front of me from Kevin. As I read one of Kevin’s notes, tears came to my eyes. It said, “Nobody in this family cares about me. I’m not the youngest, and I’m not the oldest, and I’m not talented. Tommy thinks I’m stupid and Dad wishes he had the other Kevin as a kid because he’s better at basketball. And you are never around to even notice me.”
Tears came to my eyes as I wrote back to him, “You know Kevin, I really do love you and I’m sorry I don’t always show it. I am here for you and you are loved in this family.”
There was no response for a while, but then I heard a tearing sound coming from the inside the bathroom. Kevin, who had run out of index cards, wrote on a torn up paper cup, “Thanks.”
I wrote back, “For what?” It returned to me with “Loving me” written on it.
Since then, I try my best to give more attention to my family members. Kevin and I have a closer relationship now, and sometimes when one of us notices that the other is upset, we’ll smile and say, “Write it on a paper cup.”
36.Why did Kevin stay in the bathroom alone crying?
  A. Because his elder brother fought with him.
  B. Because he hurt his face.
  C. Because his mum did not stop their fighting.
  D. Because nobody tells him they love him.
37. What did the writer learn from the incident?
  A. She must stop the fighting between family members.
  B. The best way to communicate with members of the family is by writing.
  C. Everyone should show how he or she loves his or her family members
  D. It is hard to make friends with your son or daughter.
38. What could be the reason that Kevin’s Dad doesn’t like him?
  A. Kevin likes fighting with others.
  B. Kevin is always alone, not communicating with others.
  C. He is not good at playing basketball.
  D. Kevin is not as talented as his brother.
39. What’s the best title for this passage?
  A. My Son Kevin                          B. Showing your love
  C. Letters between Mom and Son            D.A Loving family

Olympic ticket sales were divided into three phases. Tickets from the first phase started in April 2007, and will end on June 30, 2007. Whether applicants (申請(qǐng)人) are in this stage of the first day or the last day to hand in their applications, they have equal access to tickets for the opportunity.
More than 50,000 people have placed orders over the Internet since the seven million tickets for the 2008 Olympic Games were put on sale on Sunday, organizers said. “By Monday noon, more than 50,000 people have placed orders for about 250,000 tickets through our official ticketing website (www.tickets.beijing2008.cn),” Rong Jun, head of the Olympic Ticketing Center, told Xinhua.
In a country with a population of 1.3 billion, many believe that only the luckiest have a chance of watching the Games, though three-quarters of tickets will be kept for home sales.
“My wife and I want to buy two tickets to the opening ceremony, but we think the chance is almost zero,” said Hao Zhiping, a retired government official.
In contrast to the overwhelming (壓倒性的) ordering enthusiasm on the Internet, however, the 1,000 designated (指定的) Bank of China branches received much few orders.
“A lot of people came to ask us for information on how to buy Olympic tickets, but only a few have placed orders,” said a manager at the Pinganli branch of BOC.
In the first phase of ticket sales, people can wait until June 30 to place their orders and tickets will be given out between July and August. For oversubscribed (過(guò)多訂購(gòu)的) events, a random (任意的) computerized selection process will be used.

D. Because more tickets are kept for people from abroad.

A. 250,000                                    B. 1,750,000

Looking for Canadian culture? Try checking out the ice rink (冰球場(chǎng)). “We love hockey,” says Marion Alexander, a Canadian English teacher in Beijing. “It really is Canada’s sport."
There is no other sport so close to the hearts of Canadians and no other sport in which they have been so successful. But how much do you know about hockey?
Hockey is played on a court of ice called a rink. Each team has six players ― a goalie (goal keeper), a center, two defensemen (后衛(wèi)), and two forwards. All of them wear ice skates (冰鞋). Instead of a ball, hockey players use a puck (冰球), a small black object made of rubber. Each team tries their best to hit the puck with their hockey sticks into the other team’s goal. Whichever team scores the most goals at the end of the three periods is the winner. "Hockey has a lot of rules," says Alexander, "but once you are used to it, it seems very natural.”
In Canada, hockey is part of the national identity. Many Canadians play hockey when they are growing up and many families make a tradition of watching the games. "I played goalie        when I was younger," remembers Alexander. "My family would always watch the Calgary Flames (a team in the National Hockey League) play on TV.”
Hockey doesn’t just unite families. It also brings the whole country together, especially during the Olympics. "Canada is a diverse country that doesn’t have a strong unified (統(tǒng)一的) culture like China. That is why hockey is so important. Supporting the national team brings all of Canada together," says Alexander.
44. The passage is mainly concerned with ________.
   A. the origin and development of hockey
   B. people’s attraction to hockey
   C. the rules and significance of hockey
   D. the role of hockey in Canadian culture
45. Hockey is important to Canadians for the following reasons EXCEPT that ________.
   A. it is Canadians’ favorite sport
   B. it is an event at the Olympics
   C. it is part of the national identity
   D. it helps unify the whole country
46. What does the sentence “Canada is a diverse country that doesn’t have a strong unified

culture like China” imply?
A. Canadians are not as friendly as Chinese.
B. Canadians are not as united as Chinese.
C. There are not so many things that bring all of Canada’s people together.
D. There are not so many sports in Canada as in China.

47. What’s the author’s attitude towards hockey in the article?
A. Supportive.                                 B. Opposing.
C. Neutral(中立的)                           D. Pessimistic(悲觀的)

An important factor that plays a part in susceptibility (容易感染) to colds is age. A study done by the University of Michigan School of Public Health showed details that seem to hold true for the general population. Infants (嬰兒) are the most cold-ridden group, averaging more than six colds in their first years. Boys have more colds than girls up to age three. After the age of three, girls are more susceptible than boys, and teenage girls average three colds a year boys two.
The general incidence (發(fā)生率) of colds continues to decrease into maturity (成年人). Elderly people who are in good health have as few as one or two colds every year. One exception is found among people in their twenties, especially women, who show a rise in cold infections, because people in this age group are most likely to have young children. Adults who delay having children until their thirties and forties experience the same sudden increase in cold infections.
The study also found that economics plays an important role. As income increases, the frequency at which colds are reported in the family decreases. Families with the lowest income suffer about a third more colds than families at the upper end. Lower income generally forces people to live in more crowded quarters than those typically occupied by wealthier people, and crowding increases the opportunities for the cold virus to travel from person to person. Low income may also in turn influence diet. The degree to which poor nutrition affects susceptibility to colds is not yet made clear, but a poor diet is suspected of lowing resistance (抵抗力) generally.
52. What kind of people are most likely to have colds, according to the passage?
  A. Infants          B. Children          C. teenagers.         D. Elderly people
53. Among the following people, who is most likely to get colds?
  A. A healthy seventy-year-old woman.
  B. A thirty year old mother whose child is five.
  C. A man who has a proper diet in a wealthy family.
  D. A poor woman who has just given birth to a child.
54. Susceptibility (容易感染) to colds can be influenced by all of the following

   EXCEPT_________.
A. age               B. sex              C. weight            D. economics

55. What can be inferred from the last sentence in the last paragraph?
A. Science has proved that poor nutrition leads to colds.
B. There is no connection between colds and poor nutrition.
C. Colds can influence a person’s diet.
D. It remains to be proved whether poor diet leads to colds.

Dear Barbara,

I have decided to go to your Shakespeare Language Center this summer vocation for further study so as to get a better understanding of English culture and improve my oral English. During the period of my study, I hope I can discuss with my classmates and teachers and go into society to learn something more about your culture. As for my accommodations, I’d prefer to live and dine with a native family near your center. I haven’t learned driving yet. Thus I may go to your center on foot.

Expecting your opinion and looking forward to your early reply.
