China is home to the invention of silk and has a long tradition of producing fine materials for clothing. Not all clothing in ancient or contemporary( 當(dāng)代的) China is made of silk, however. In fact, silk was only available to the wealthy classes(階級) for much of China's history. Until the introduction of cotton during the Ming Dynasty, from the 14th to the 17th century, the poorer classes wore rough clothing made from fibers (纖維).

In ancient China, the tunic(無袖長袍)was particularly popular . Called hanfu(漢服), both men and women could be seen wearing tunics made of different materials. Women's tunics were long and loose(寬松的), extending all the way down to their feet and often cinched with a belt or rope to get tighter(緊). Men's tunics were shorter, usually only extending down to their knees. During the winter, both men and women would wear cotton jackets for warmth. In the winter, men would also wear pants (褲子) or ankle-length skirts into their clothes to keep warm and protect their legs against the cold winter conditions.

Contemporary Chinese clothing is now made of many of the same materials as contemporary clothing found in other countries. Much of the traditional Chinese clothing produced now is made of cotton and silk, but generally contemporary Chinese clothing also contains synthetic (合成的) fibers in with the cotton and silk, such as nylon (尼龍). In addition, linen (亞麻布) is now commonly used in contemporary Chinese clothing, especially during the summer months because it is light and breathable.

A. silk B. fiber C. cotton D. linen

2.Which of the following about hanfu(漢服) is mentioned in the text?

3.The underlined word "cinched" in the second paragraph is closest in meaning to "___".

A. 懸掛 B. 插入 C. 裝飾 D. 拴,綁

I am a writer. I spend a great deal of my time thinking about the power of language—the way it can evoke(喚起) an emotion, a visual image, a complex idea, or a simple truth.Language is the tool of my trade. And I use them all—all the Englishes I grew up with.

Born into a Chinese family that had recently arrived in California, I’ve been giving more thought to the kind of English my mother speaks.Like others, I have described it to people as “broken” English. But I feel embarrassed to say that.It has always bothered me that I can think of no way to describe it other than “broken”, as if it were damaged and needed to be fixed, as if it lacked a certain wholeness.I’ve heard other terms used, “l(fā)imited English,” for example. But they seem just as bad, as if everything is limited, including people’s perceptions(認(rèn)識)of the limited English speaker.

I know this for a fact, because when I was growing up, my mother’s “l(fā)imited” English limited my perception of her.I was ashamed of her English.I believed that her English reflected the quality of what she had to say. That is, because she expressed them imperfectly her thoughts were imperfect. And I had plenty of evidence to support me: the fact that people in department stores, at banks, and at restaurants did not take her seriously, did not give her good service, pretended not to understand her, or even acted as if they did not hear her.

I started writing fiction in 1985. And for reasons I won’t get into today, I began to write stories using all the Englishes I grew up with: the English she used with me, which for lack of a better term might be described as “broken”, and what I imagine to be her translation of her Chinese, her internal(內(nèi)在的) language, and for that I sought to preserve the essence, but neither an English nor a Chinese structure. I wanted to catch what language ability tests can never show: her intention, her feelings, the rhythms of her speech and the nature of her thoughts.

1.By saying “Language is the tool of my trade”, the author means that ______.

A.she is a writer by profession

B.she is fascinated by languages

C.she works as a translator

D.she uses English in foreign trade

2.Which of the following is TRUE according to Paragraph 3?

A.Americans do not understand broken English.

B.Broken English always reflects imperfect thoughts.

C.The author’s mother had positive influence on her.

D.The author’s mother was not respected sometimes.

3. The author gradually realizes her mother’s English is _____.

A.well structured B.rich in meaning

C.in the old style D.easy to translate

4.What is the passage mainly about?

A.The author’s misunderstanding of “l(fā)imited” English.

B.The limitation of the author’s perception of her mother.

C.The changes of the author’s attitude to her mother’s English.

D.The author’s experiences of using broken English.

科目:高中英語 來源:2015-2016學(xué)年內(nèi)蒙古赤峰二中高一4月月考英語試卷(解析版) 題型:閱讀理解

For as early as I could remember, my mother had been a bright, cheerful woman deeply interested and involved in the world around her. However, in the last fifteen years of her life, she had to live with senile dementia (老年癡呆). I would go to my home to pay her a visit in California and she would curiously look at me and then ask, “Who are you?” I would answer, “I’m your own son, of course.” “Where do you live?” She would ask. “In Virginia”, I would tell her. “Isn’t that interesting,” she would say, “I have a son in Virginia.”

Mother seemed only forgetful as well as confused at the beginning of that disease, but sometime later she would go through different time of intense anxiety. She would keep walking through the house she used to live in most of her life crying uneasily that she would like to go home. Or sometimes she left home and wandered away if she were unattended(無人照看) for a short time.

Hoping to make her happy and put her mind at ease I would take her in my car, visiting sites where she used to live when she was a child. In the yard of the hillside house in Shipman I sat in the car and admired the view of the old oaks and long green lawn. I pictured my mother that there was a little girl playing with the pet lamb she had been so fond of. I looked to her for some response. She shook her head and said, “I want to go home.”

Over the years I have decided that what my mother was calling home was not a place, but a time. I think it was a time when she was much younger, when her children were still underfoot, when her husband was still energetic and attentive.

Watching my mother’s suffering set me wondering where I would have in mind if someday I couldn’t find home and wanted to go there. In this family we tend to be long-lived and we grow fuzzy (糊涂的) minded as the years go by. At eighty I have already noticed some alarming symptoms(癥狀). My doctor says the forgetfulness is only natural and that it comes with age. Still the fear of senile dementia is haunting there. Someday if and when I become even more cloudy minded than I am now, unable to drive and unable to tell you where "home" is, my dear son, I expect I will ask you to take me home, I know you will do your best to find the place I need to be. I leave these notes for your guidance.

1.Which of the following is NOT the symptom of the mother of the author?

A. forgetful B. confused C. cheerful D. uneasy

2.What’s the meaning of the underlined word “picture”?

A. 攝影 B.描繪 C.出現(xiàn) D. 繪畫

3.What can you infer from the third paragraph?

A. The author cared much about his mother.

B. The mother of the author liked pet lambs very much.

C. The author found a very little girl who was playing with a pet lamb.

D. The mother of the author did not like her usual home.

4.What’s the best title of the passage?

A. Where Is Home?

B. A story about a son and a mother.

C. Everyone will suffer with senile dementia.

D. Take Mother Home.

He may not have an "S" across his chest but this dog is most certainly a hero.

Harley, who was rescued from a puppy mill four years ago, was named the American Humane Association's 2015 American Hero Dog. Harley, who is missing an eye and has other medical issues from his time at the mill, is now a "spokes-dog" against puppy mills. He serves as the adorable furry face of the “Harley to the Rescue "campaign, which raises funds for the National Dog Mill Rescue, according to a press release.

The pup was rescued back in 2011 and adopted by Rudi and her husband, Dan. "It was just four years ago that he was pulled from the cage in the puppy mill and left to die," Har-ley's owner, Rudi, said during the awards show at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles this past weekend, according to Today. com. "We never would have ever thought he would live thus long and make such a difference for so many puppies. "

The dog was one of eight finalists up for the American Hero Dog and was chosen as the winner through public votes. The finalists all won $ 1,500 to be donated to one of American Humane Association' s charity partners, with Harley receiving another $ 5 ,000 to go toward his charity partner, New Leash On Life.

According to the release, Harley spent 10 years at the puppy mill, and endured rough treatment there, which led to his many medical issues. He lost his eye as a result of his cage being power-washed with him inside.

The dog isn't just the face of his campaign, he also goes on rescue missions and makes public appearances at events and schools to raise awareness for puppy mills.
