Homestay provides English language students with the opportunity to speak English outside the classroom and the experience of being part of a British home.
What to Expect
The host will provide accommodation and meals. Rooms will be cleaned and bedcovers changed at least once a week. You will be given the house key and the host is there to offer help and advice as well as to take an interest in your physical and mental health.
Accommodation Zones
Homestays are located in London mainly in Zones2, 3 and 4 of the transport system. Most hosts do not live in the town centre as much of central London is commercial and not residential(居住的). Zones 3 and 4 often offer larger accommodation in a less crowned area. It is very convenient to travel in London by Underground.
Meal Plans Available
? Continental Breakfast
? Breakfast and Dinner
? Breakfast, Packed Lunch and Dinner
It’s important to note that few English families still provide a traditional cooked breakfast. Your accommodation includes Continental Breakfast which normally consists of fruit juice, cereal(谷物類食品),bread and tea or coffee. Cheese, fruit and cold meat are not normally part of a Continental Breakfast in England. Dinners usually consist of meat or fish with vegetables followed by dessert, fruit and coffee.
Friends
If you wish to invite a friend over to visit, you must first ask your host’s permission. You have no right to entertain friends in a family home as some families feel it is an invasion of their privacy.
Self-Catering Accommodation in Private Homes
Accommodation on a room-only basis includes shared kitchen and bathroom facilities and often a main living room. This kind of accommodation offers an independent lifestyle and is more suitable for the long-stay student. However, it does not provide the same family atmosphere as an ordinary homestay and may not benefit those who need to practice English at home quite as much.

A tailgate party is a social event held on and around the open tailgate of a vehicle. Tailgating, which originated in the United States, often involves consuming alcoholic drinks and frilling food. Tailgate parties usually occur in the parking lots at stadiums, before and occasionally after games and concerts. People attending such a party are said to be tailgating. Many people participate even if their vehicles do not have tailgates.
The idea for eating out of the back of a car may have started in 1866 with Charles Goodnight, a Texas farmer. He noticed that the cowboys he employed needed a way to eat on the road, so he transformed a U. S. Army wagon(馬車) into a mobile kitchen. There, hungry workers could eat, relax, and socialize after a long day of working.
Nowadays, people tailgate for lots of reasons, everything from college football games to Jimmy Buffet concerts. In schools and communities, some athletic departments, coaches and parents of student athletes rely on post-game tailgating parties to build community and support for their program and team.
What people consider essentials(必備)for tailgating spreads isn’t the same across the country. Different areas of the country have their own favorite foods for tailgating. While foods like burgers and chips may be common everywhere, some areas have specialties. For instance, those in Louisiana may consider jambalaya a tailgating must, while those in the Midwest simply can’t go without brats. And the West Coast? Don’t be surprised to see grilled fish or pasta. While dishes may differ from area to area, one thing is the same across the country: beer.
1.Why did Charles Goodnight invent a mobile kitchen?
A. To show off his cooking skills
B. To build a canteen
C. To celebrate the army’s victory
D. To attract more cowboys
2.What can we learn about tailgate parties?
A. They are usually held before concerts
B. They are mainly held for cowboys
C. They are also occasions to make friends
D. They are meant for football teams
3.What do people think a must for all tailgate parties?
A. Beer B. Sports
C. Music D. Vehicles with tailgates
4.What is the last paragraph mainly about?
A. The spread of tailgating
B. The popularity of jambalaya
C. Favorite foods on tailgate parties
D. Necessary equipment for tailgating

Coral reefs
For millions of years, coral reefs have provided homes and food for thousands of different living things. Fish and sea birds share the reef with other sea creatures. Now these beautiful places are in danger. 1. Scientists have found that people and pollution have ruined more than one-fourth of the earth’s coral reefs. Unless things change, all of the remaining reefs may die within your lifetime.
Some people think that coral is stone because of its rough, hard surface. But coral is an animal! Tiny polyps (水螅體) form the coral reefs. 2. These colours come from the algae (海藻) living inside the coral. Billions of coral polyps stick together. New ones grow on the dead corals. This happens year after year. Over time, the coral builds up a reef. The reef rises from the ocean floor until it almost reaches the sea’s surface. It takes coral 500,000 years to build a huge reef. 3.
The coral reefs have been harmed in different ways. People have broken off pieces of coral. They wanted to sell or keep them. To catch more fish, people have dropped sticks of dynamite (炸藥) into the water. 4. Water pollution has encouraged overgrowth of the sea plants that grow near coral reefs. They block out the sunlight that the algae need. 5. Warm water kills the algae. When the algae die, the coral loses both its food and its color. The coral turns white and dies. Scientists call this coral bleaching (珊瑚白化). The bleached part of the coral reef cannot recover.
A. They come in many colours.
B. This has blown up parts of the reefs.
C. So are all the sea plants and animals that depend on them.
D. The worst problem is the heating up of the world’s oceans.
E. Coral reefs are experiencing a rapid increase in most locations.
F. However, it has taken human beings less than 100 years to destroy the reefs.
G. They cover less than 1% of the ocean floor, but support about 25% of sea creatures.
