Why does it seem like we are running around like chickens without a head? We fill up our schedules with to-do lists, events, meetings, and everything else in between. With such a busy schedule and a limited amount of time throughout the day, it’s easy to be late. Why does it seem like there aren’t enough hours in the day? You want to find out how not to be late again. __1.
Be Organized and Plan
First things first: you need to be organized with your schedule and plan! _2. If you are determined to be on time, you must first know what is on your schedule and at what times. Give yourself time in between meetings to relax and get refocused for the next meeting. It will be important for you to pace yourself throughout your day so that you don’t get overwhelmed and burnt out.
Arrive at Least 10 Minutes Early
When you organize and plan out your week every Sunday evening, it will be important for you to leave enough room in between meetings/events to arrive at the location at least 10 minutes early. ___3. Personally, I would rather be waiting instead of being the one walking in late. When you come early, it shows that you care. Be prepared with what you need to bring and be 100% there.
4. ________
When it comes to being on time, what helps me is to figure out what I want to wear the night before and have it ready to go in the morning. Prepare the coffee machine the night before and have it set for when you want it to be ready in the morning. Prepare and organize the night before what you need in the morning. For everything that needs to happen in the morning, try to prepare as much as possible the night before. This helps and you will feel much more relaxed when you wake up.
Value Yourself and Your Time
“Time is the coin of your life. It is the only coin you have, and only you can determine how it will be spent. Be careful for fear that you let other people spend it for you” -Carl Sandburg.
When it comes to being on time, it’s all about valuing your time. When you value your time, you value how you spend it. If you are constantly running around and being late to events, it’s important for you to evaluate how much you value your time. When you are able to value your time, you will start to appreciate how you spend your time. _5.___ We experience so many distractions every day that we can easily be pulled away from what we need to do. Other people or noise from the outside world can take away your precious time if you allow it to happen. Start valuing yourself and your time.
A. That way you won’t feel stressed about being late.
B. Prepare the Night Before
C. When it comes to being on time, it’s all about creating good habits.
D. Time is precious, and how you spend it all depends on you.
E. I highly suggest that you plan your week every Sunday evening.
F. Find out how not to be late again with these simple steps
G. You need to take these steps!

Since around the later part of the 1950s, society started to realize that tobacco cigarettes caused health problems. As research progressed along with increasing numbers of people that developed lung cancer, emphysema, and other smoking related illnesses, cigarette smoking has become less accepted and popular. Unfortunately, the nicotine contained in cigarettes is one of the most addictive substances on the planet and makes quitting smoking one of the hardest things to do. In 2003, Chinese pharmacist, Hon Lik invented the electronic cigarette as a safer, and cleaner way to breathe in nicotine after his father, a heavy smoker, passed away from lung cancer attributed to smoking tobacco cigarettes.
Hon Lik applied for his first patent on the electronic cigarette in 2003 and afterwards introduced e-cigs to the Chinese market in the following year through his employer, Golden Dragon Holdings. Golden Dragon Holdings later changed the company’s name to “Ruyan” in order to better match the company’s name(Ruyan means “almost like smoke”)to the new product. Since the renaming, the Ruyan company has continued e-cigarette development and grown to be one of the largest global e-cig manufactures.
Dr.Sam Han, CEO of Cixi E-CIG Technology, Inc, Ltd. also has a number of e-cig related inventions, including four patents in the United States and two in China that are electronic cigarette and e-liquid technology related. Similar to Hon Lik’s father, Dr. Han was a heavy smoker for more than 40 years before beginning to work on electronic cigarette technologies in order to help himself and others make the shift to vapor smoking. Dr.Han continues to market and conduct R&D in e-cig related techonologies to this date.

How to Be a successful person
Gary Hall Jr
Winner of 5 Olympic Gold Medals
“In 1997 I was found to have developed diabetes(糖尿病) . Believing my career was over, I felt extremely low. Then one of the specialists said there was no reason why I should stop training and competing. That was it—the encouragement I needed. I could still be a winner if I believe in myself. I am not saying that it isn’t difficult sometimes. But I wanted to prove to myself that I wasn’t finished yet. Nothing is to stand in my way.”
Karen Pickering
Swimming World Champion
“I swim 4 hours a day, 6 days a week. I manage that sort of workload by putting it on top of my diary. This is the key to success—you can’t follow a career in any field without being well-organized. List what you believe you can achieve. Trust yourself, write down your goals for the day, however small they are, and you’ll be a step closer to achieving them.”
Kirsten Best
Poet & Writer
“When things are getting hard, a voice inside my head tells me that I can’t achieve something. Then, there are other distractions, such as family or hobbies. The key is to concentrate. When I feel tense, it helps a lot to repeat words such as ‘calm’, ‘peace’ or ‘focus’, either out loud or silently in my mind. It makes me feel more in control and increases my confidence. This is a habit that can become second nature quite easily and is a powerful psychological tool.”

There is no doubt that teens today are extremely busy. Homework piles up and extra-curricular (課外的) activities are time-consuming. Often, teens have to take part in a sport or activity after school, and they are up until 10:00 or later doing homework. Getting teenagers involved in volunteer opportunities can give them a sense of accomplishment that is not connected with sports or school.
Teenagers are often in their own little world. Helping them get involved in volunteering opportunities is the perfect way for them to open up that world and give their time to a good cause.
The key to getting teens involved in volunteer work is to find an opportunity that will fit into their schedule and find something that interests them. Also, keep it close to home. If they have to travel a long distance to volunteer, it’s less likely to be accomplished.
My son has helped with the local library’s reading program for two summers. It is close to home and the schedule is very elastic. We go in and choose days that work with his schedule and he volunteers for about 2 hours at a time. He is responsible for helping kids get signed up for the summer reading program and helping them record the hours they read. It is only a one-week time commitment, but it is very rewarding.
When teens volunteer they often see that there are others more needy than themselves. They also learn time management. Your teen will become a more rounded, less self-centred individual.
Colleges see thousands of students applying for admission every year. If your teen has shown the devotion to volunteer in the community, it can give him the advantage for college admission or scholarship opportunities. So, volunteering is good for their present and their future!
1.What is the text mainly about?
A. The heavy loads faced by teens toady.
B. The benefits of volunteering for teens.
C. The author’s son’s volunteering experience.
D. The requirements of volunteering.
2.The author of the text probably_______.
A. never thought his son would volunteer
B. tries to limit his son’s volunteering time
C. supports his son in volunteering
D. is concerned about his son’s learning
3.We can infer from the last paragraph that_______.
A. colleges show more preference for students with volunteering experiences
B. volunteering can help a teen stand out as an excellent student
C. scholarship opportunities are only offered to excellent students
D. one can’t become an excellent student without volunteering experience
4.The underlined word “elastic” in the fourth paragraph can be best replaced by “ ”.
A. independent B. tight
C. precious D. flexible
