第二節(jié):讀寫任務(wù)

請(qǐng)根據(jù)以下任務(wù)說(shuō)明和寫作要求,寫一篇幅150詞左右的英文短文。

Teenagers’ secrets should be kept to themselves and no one else ,their parents included, has the right to stick their nose into their private life. As we know, teenagers are going through a special period of development both physically and psychologically. They are curious about and puzzled by the unexpected changes in their body and mind. What’s more, exposed to a world of adults, it is only too natural for them to begin imitating (模仿) adults’ behaviors in secret. Boys begin to smoke and girls begin to spend time doing their hair. Some even begin to date with a girlfriend or boyfriend without their parents’ knowledge. They are doing al this in secret because they are still unsure whether it is right to do so and afraid that ,if found out by their parent, they will get misunderstood and even punished. And in fact, in many cases, the parents can not deal with the matter well and hurt their children’s feelings badly, making children no longer willing to communicate with their parents. When this happens, it hurts terribly the whole family feeling. So it seems right that teenagers should keep their secrets to themselves and their parents should allow their children that right.

【答案】

Teenagers’ Secrets Should be Shared with Their Parents

This passage mainly says that many teenagers have their own secrets but parents always want to know them, which will probably hurt children’s feeling. As a result, children won’t like to share their secrets with their parents.

Some people believed that parents should allow their teenage children to keep their own secrets. Teenagers are going through a special period .Wondering about and puzzled by changes of their body and mind, afraid to get misunderstood when their parents know it, they choose to copy adults’ behavior secretly. Parents should respect the right of their children .

This idea sounds right but is actually wrong .

Most of the teenagers’ secrets, if not at all, should be shared by their parents. Many of their secrets kept to themselves may do them unimaginable harm. I am speaking from my experience. Unlike many of other teenagers, I always let my parents know my secrets. They are always ready to offer me valuable advice about how to deal with my troubles and puzzles. I am happy to have such understanding parents who can share my secret with me and help me to live a happy life in this special time.

The question was once asked of a highly successful businessman,“How have you done so much in your lifetime?” He replied, “I have dreams. I have turned my mind loose to imagine what I wanted to do. Then I have gone to bed and thought about my dreams. In the night I dreamed about my dreams. And when I awoke in the morning ,     I saw the way to make my dreams real. While other people were saying, ‘You can’t do that. It’s  impossible.’ I was well on my way to achieving what I wanted.” As Woodrow Wilson, 28th President of the US, said, “We grow great by dreams. All big men are dreamers.”
They see things in the soft haze of a spring day, or in the red fire on a long winter’s evening. Some of us let these dreams die, but others nourish and protect them; nourish them through bad days until they bring them to the sunshine and light which comes always to those who sincerely hope that their dreams will come true.
So please, don’t let anyone steal your dreams, or try to tell you they are impossible.
“Sing your song, dream your dreams, hope your hope and pray your prayer.”

There is a real joke. When some guys were talking heatedly about “F4”in the living room, the father came in and interrupted: “Which is more powerful, F-4 or F-16?” The boys burst into laughter.Obviously, the father took F4 for a type of fighter plane. He didn’t know that F4 is a pop group extremely popular among young people these two years.

Then what does the “F” in  F4 stand for? Fever or fortune? It is certainly not “failure” for sure! We look at the success and appeal of these 4 stars from the popular drama Meteor Garden 《流星花園》,who took the island by storm during their brief visit here. For sure, they look good. Each of them being 1.80 meters tall, they are all very popular throughout the world.

But what exactly is the appeal of these 4 young guys? Nobody can tell.Maybe some of young students are just following the fashion. Then why is Meteor Garden stopped from being shown on TV in China? Well, some young people just could not agree. In fact, students are not too young to tell black from white. And they must be clear that every coin has two sides. While they find interest in F4, they must be clear what bad that drama will do us.

Halloween is very popular in western countries. On October 31st, dozens of children dressed in costumes(節(jié)日服裝)knock on their neighbors' doors and yell "Trick or Treat" when the door opens. Pirates and princesses, ghosts and popular heroes of the day all hold bags open to catch the candy or other goodies that the neighbors drop in. As they give each child a treat the neighbors exclaim over the costumes and try to guess who is under the masks.

Today school dances and neighborhood parties called "block parties" are popular among the young and the old. More and more adults celebrate Halloween. They dress up like historical or political figures and go to masquerade parties(化妝舞會(huì)). In larger cities, costumed children and their parents gather at shopping malls early in the evening. Stores and businesses give parties with games and treats for the children. Teenagers enjoy costume dances at their schools and the more outrageous the costume the better!

Certain pranks(惡作。﹕uch as soaping car windows and tipping over garbage cans are expected. But partying and pranks are not the only things that Halloweeners enjoy doing. Some collect money to buy food and medicine for needy children around the world.

A 71-year-old man, surnamed Wang, in Northwest China Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous (adj. 自治的) Region who won a lottery jackpot(彩票獎(jiǎng)金) of 5 million yuan has donated all of the money to charity. On November 21 when Wang arrived at the lottery complex in Urumqi to receive his prize, he donated the first batch of 500,000 yuan to a charity project. It aims to finance schooling of students in poverty.

“ I donated the money because I want to help others and I am very happy to do something for our society, ” he said. “Too much money means nothing to me. But this money will be very helpful for those in need.”

The old man was a retired worker with the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps in Changji. His pension was only 600 yuan per month, but he said the income from his pension was enough for him.

Wang came to Xinjiang in 1956 from North China’s Henan Province. He had been engaged in farming before retirement. His wife has passed away. Wang revealed he did not tell his only daughter, who lived outside Changji, he had won the prize.

“ My daughter lives in a good condition,” he said. “ I will not leave a single penny to her. Those people that urgently need help deserve the prize.”

Although his pension was merely 600 yuan per month, Wang claimed he never said no to others who wanted to borrow money from him if he could afford it. He began to buy welfare lottery tickets in 2003 when he learned that lottery jackpot would help those in need.

The way people hold the belief that a fun-filled, pain-free lifestyle equals happiness actually reduces their chances of ever obtaining real happiness. If fun and pleasure are equal to happiness, then pain must be equal to unhappiness. But in fact, the opposite is true: more often than not things that lead to happiness contain some pain.

As a result, many people avoid the very attempts that are the source of true happiness. They fear the pain inevitably (不可避免地) brought by such things as marriage, raising children, professional achievement, religious commitment, self-improvement.

Ask a bachelor why he resists marriage even though he finds dating to be less and less satisfying. If he is honest,he will tell you that he is afraid of making a commitment, for commitment is in fact quite painful. The single life is filled with fun, adventure and excitement.Marriage has such moments, but they are not its most distinguishing features.

Couples, with infant children, are lucky to get a whole night’s sleep of a three-day vacation. We don’t know any parent who would choose the word fun to describe raising children. But couples that decide not to have children ever know the joys of watching a child grow up or playing with a grandchild.

Understanding and accepting that true happiness has nothing to do with fun is one of the most liberating realizations. It liberates time: now we can devote more hours to activities that can really increase our happiness. It liberates money: buying that new car or those fancy clothes to increase our happiness now seems pointless. And it liberates us from envy: we now understand that all those who always have so much fun actually may not be happy at all.
