The disadvantage you usually find about MP3 players like the iPod is that they are too big. But get ready for the MP3 player in your hand to get much smaller—the size of a Band-Aid (創(chuàng)可貼).

It’s called the Skinny Player, and it’s being designed by industrial designers Chih-Wei Wang and Shou-His Fu. Unlike the current types of iPod Shuffles and iPod Nanos, the Skinny Player does not need to be fixed onto your clothes or put into your pocket. It could stick to your skin(皮膚) like you would attach a Band-Aid. But unlike Band-Aids, this tiny MP3 player will not lose its stickiness as you pull it off for the hundredth time.

The Skinny Player features flexible speakers allowing the user to enjoy music conveniently. When it gets dirty, the user can simply clean it using a damp cloth. No batteries either. The Skinny Player’s designers say it will be powered by body heat, using a flexible battery charging device (充電器) that is in contact with skin whenever the player is being used.

The design only include an on/off button and flexible speakers, no word yet on arranging the volume. Besides, the memory capacity(儲存容量) won’t be the best, as it is designed to only store one album.

The small size and the ability to stick it onto your skin like a Band-Aid should make the Skinny Player perfect for runners who now depend on their iPod to keep them energized on the running path.

閱讀下列短文,從每題所給的四個選項A、B、C、D中,選出最佳選項。

One of the greatest killers in the Western world is heart dis— ease. The death rate(率)from the disease has been increasing at an alarming speed for the past thirty years.Today in Britain, for example, about four hundred people a day die ofheart disease.Medical experts know that people can reduce their chances of get ting heart disease by exercising regularly,by not smoking,by changing their diets, and by paying more attention to reducing stress(壓力)in their work.

However,Western health-care systems are still not paying enough attention to the prevention of the disease. There is a need for more programs to educate the public about the causes and prevention of heart disease, lntead of supporting such programs, however, the US health-care system is spending large sums of money on the surgical(外科的)treatment of the disease after it develops. This emphasis(強調(diào))ontreatment clearly has something to do with the technological advances that have taken place in the past ten to fifteen years. In this time, modern technology has enabled doctors to develop new surgical techniques. Many operations that were considered impossible or too risky(有風(fēng)險的)a few years ago are now performed every day in us hospitals. The result has been a huge increase in heart surgery.

Although there is on doubt that heart surgery can help a large number of people, some people point out that the emphasis on the surgical treatment of the disease has three clear disadvan— tages.First.it attracts interest and money away from the question of prevention.Second,it causes the costs of general hospital care to rise. After hospitals buy the expensive equipment that is nec-essary for modern heart surgery, theymust try to recover the money they have spent. To do this, they raise costs for all their patients, not just those patients whose treatment requires the equipment. The third disadvantage is that doctors are encouraged to perform surgery-even on patients for whom an operation is unnecessary-because the equipment and expert skills are there.A government office recently stated that major heart surgery was often performed even though its chances of success were low.In one type of heart surgery, for example, only 15 percent of patients improved their conditions after the surgery. However, more than 100,000.of these operations are performed in the United States every year.

We find that bright children are hardly held_back by mixed-ability teaching. On the contrary(相反), both their knowledge and experience are enriched. We feel that there are many disadvan-tages in streaming pupils(按智力劃分班級). It does not consider the fact that children develop at different speed. It can have a bad effect on both the bright and the not-so-bright child. After all, it can be quite discouraging to be at the bottom of the top grade!

Besides, it is rather unreal to grade people just according to their intellectual(智力的)ability. This is only one part of their total personality(人格). We should develop the abilities of all our pupils to the full, not just their academic ability(學(xué)科學(xué)習(xí)能力). We also value personal qualities and social skills, and we find that mixed-ability teaching is useful to all these sides of learning.

In our classrooms, we work in many kinds of ways. The pupils often work in groups:this gives them the opportunity to learn to work together, to share, and to develop leadership skills. They also learn how to deal with personal problems as well as learning how to think, to make decisions, to analyze and evaluate(分析和評價), and to change ideas with others well. The pupils learn from each other as well as from the teacher.

Sometimes the pupils work in pairs; sometimes they work on their own work, and they can do this at their own speed. They also have some formal class teaching when this is proper. We encourage our pupils to use the library, and we teach them the skills they need in order to do this well. A higher pupil can do difficult work:it doesn't matter what age the child is. We expect our pupils to do their best, not their least, and we give them every encouragement to reach this purpose.
