He ordered the construction(修建)of a causeway of a stronger and taller dyke to solve the drought problem. The lives of local people improved over the following years. Then Bai Juyi had more free time to enjoy the beauty of West Lake. He visited West Lake almost every day. This causeway was later named after Bai Di in Bai Juyi's honor.

Middle school days are both fun and busy. Students spend their days in class, listening to the interesting and        boring words of the teacher. They spend the short breaks running, playing and shouting happily        going back to the classroom again. But        should students spend their free time outside school?
In Western countries, it is ordinary for students to have a part-time job after school and at weekends. Students can make their own money and learn more about the “        world”. They enjoy the independence(獨立) and(of course) money, and parents enjoy the quiet house.        , it seems that, in China, parents        so much about their children’s studies that they prefer to see their children        most of their free time studying and preparing for all those exams. It is natural for        to feel that way in China, but I believe the answer lies in balance. Sometimes, western school children work long hours after school to make money, so they become too tired to listen in class or have no time for homework. But Chinese students spend        much time on their studies that other things become3 less important.
So, find a good and healthy balance! If you have a part-time job and you feel        , your parents will also be happy because you’re spending the money you make and not theirs!

Hi, Louis!
I’m writing to tell you something about the customs(風(fēng)俗) and festivals.
Everyone loves holidays since one doesn’t need to go to school or work. Although all holidays mean no school and work, but not all of them are the same. On some of them you go out with friends; on others you stay home to eat, talk, and have fun with your family. For example in the USA, everyone thinks New Year’s Eve and New Year are both for playing with friends. Christmas is the time to stay home and exchange gifts with family members. The opposite (相反) is true in Japan though. For example, in Japan, New Year is for spending time with the family to eat, talk, have fun, and go to the temples. But Christmas is for boy and girl friends to go out and exchange gifts. Originally Christmas should be to celebrate(慶祝) the birth of Christ.
I have been interested in foreign customs since I was little. If you learn these different holiday customs, you will learn about different histories and cultures. This is much more interesting than learning them at the library from morning to evening.
Loves,

It is well-known that the “prom”, a formal dance held at the end of high school or college, is an important date in every student’s life. What is less well-known is that the word “prom” comes from the verb “to promenade”, which means to walk around, beautifully dressed, in order to attract attention. The idea is that you should see and be seen by others.
The prom is not just an American tradition, though most people believe that it started in America. In Canada the event is called a “formal”. In Britain and Australia the old fashioned word “dance” is more and more frequently being referred to as a “prom”. The prom is expensive to organize and the tickets can cost students a lot of money. The tradition is that students themselves have to raise the money to pay for it. Selling the students newspapers is one way to raise money; so is taking a part-time job at the weekend.
Although the prom should be the experience of a lifetime, it also worries many students. There is the problem of what to wear, who to take as your partner, who will be voted “prom queen”, etc. And it is not only students who feel worried.
