Dear Alan,
Guess what? I have a chance to choose my new place to live in! I'm excited and a little nervous. Could you please give me some help?
I'm not sure whether I will live in a house or in an apartment. On the one hand, a house will be too big for just one person, so maybe I should rent an apartment. On the other hand, if I rent (租)a house, I could find someone else to share with me. The only problem is that a house full of people might be too noisy for me. I prefer to have my own space. The city has some nice apartments, but they are also too expensive. However, if I could find a two-bedroom apartment and get a roommate, that would make it more affordable(負(fù)擔(dān)得起的).I just need to search for a roommate who is neat and quiet. You know I can't live with someone who is loud and messy. I don't have a car, so I also need to think carefully about the location. I probably need to look for somewhere near a bus stop or an underground station. That way I will have more time to study and spend less time traveling.
I'm looking forward to your reply.
Love,
Victor

On a snowy day, Xia Qihang fell down on his way home. He fell so hard that his trousers broke. (A)__________, when he arrived home, his parents only complained that he wasn’t being careful and said nothing to comfort him.
This 15-year-old boy from Zhuhe Junior High School, Heilongjiang, is not alone. Over half of male (男的) middle school students hope to get more support from their parents, according to the latest survey conducted (進行) by the National Institute of Education Sciences. It says that only two out of every 10 parents give boys enough support.

Indeed, (C) it still seems that there is a gap between parents and boys. When (D) they communicate with each other, they talk mostly about school, according to the survey. If you visit the animal shelter(收容所)in Saunas, California, you'll see huge signs that have a picture of a dog and a cat on them. These signs are put in front of the shelter to catch people's attention. The signs make people interested in the shelter and encourage them to visit it and maybe even take a cat or a dog into their homes.
Each year, the Salinas shelter accepts thousands of dogs and cats. The animals are either lost ones or are left by people who can't take care of them. Of all the animals, some of them are taken into new homes. Some others are moved to other shelters. And, unluckily, some cannot be saved because they are too sick or are thought to be dangerous.
Animal shelters provide food, medicine, and safe places for animals. But they are not the best homes. The animals stay in small cage(籠子). The people who work at shelters do their best to care for the animals, but the animals do not always get the attention or exercise they need.
To prevent animals from becoming homeless, pet owners should take good care of their pets. Most pet doctors also suggest people make sure their pets have a special surgery(外科手術(shù)). It prevents animals from having more babies. And that reduces the number of homeless animals.
1.How many dogs and cats does the Saunas shelter accept every year?
2.Why are the shelters not the best homes for the animals according to the passage?
3.If you find a homeless cat in the street, will you take it home? Why or why not?

Do you go to school by bus? It is very important for you to know how to be safe when taking a bus, no matter whether you like it or not.
First, don’t run to the bus stop, but walk. While you are at the bus stop, you should wait in a safe place. Do not run or play while waiting. And never get into a car with a stranger.
Second, don’t talk in a loud voice when you are on the bus, so the driver will not be disturbed (打擾). If you need to talk with the bus driver, you’d better wait until the bus stop. Never throw things on the bus or out of the windows. Never play near the emergency exit(緊急出口). When there is a fire, the most important thing is to break the window with a hammer(鐵錘) or any sharp (鋒利) things and then jump out.
Third, when you are getting off the bus, make sure you walk (not run) three more steps away from the door. This is the best place to be around a bus. Stay away from the bus wheels and watch out for moving cars!
Last, if you leave something on the bus, never return to the bus to get it. The driver may not see you come back and he may begin moving the bus. Also, if you drop something near the bus, tell the driver before you try to pick it up, so he will know where you are.
