Two students started quarreling at school. One student shouted dirty words at the other, and a fight began.
What can be done to stop fights like this at school? In some schools, disputants ( 爭執(zhí)者 ) sit down with peer mediators (同齡調(diào)解員). Peer mediators are usually students with special training in this kind of problem.
Peer mediators help disputants to talk in a friendly way. Here are some of the ways they use.
Express what you think clearly but don’t say anything to hurt the other. Begin with “I feel” instead of “You always”.
Listen carefully to what the other person is saying. Don’t stop the other person’s words.
Keep looking at the other person’s eyes when he or she is speaking.
Try to see the problems on the other person’s side.
Never put anyone down . Saying things like “You are foolish” makes the talk difficult.
Try to find a result that makes both people happy.
Peer mediators never decide on the winner. They don’t decide who is right or who is wrong. Instead they help disputants find their own“win-win” result. A “win –win” result can make everyone feel good.
Peer mediators’ work is often successful just because it gets disputants to talk to each other. And getting disputants to talk to each other is the first step in finding a “win-win” result.

Making mistakes
It’s good to make mistakes.And here’s why.
First of a11.mistakes are a clear sign that you are trying new things. It’s always good to try new things because when you’re trying new things you are growing. If you never try anything new,how can you improve and develop? The simple answer is,“You can’t.”
Another good thing about mistakes is this:When you are making mistakes, you are learning.Consider this:Edison failed 1 0,000 times— before he perfected the light bulb. When he was asked how it felt to fail that many times,he replied that he hadn’t failed 1 0,000 times, but rather had learned 10,000 things that didn’t work.
Finally, when you make a mistake, you are much closer to success. Why?Because every time you make a mistake, you are one step closer to success. But it doesn’t mean that you can make mistakes without thinking.Instead, when you try something new,you have to think it over,so that you can keep away from some unnecessary mistakes.

A boy called Mario had many friends, and he was proud of it. Whoever he met, he would like to show off(炫耀) how popular he was at school.
One day, his grandpa said to him, “Mario, I know that you don’t have as many friends as you think. Many of them are not true to you.”
Mario thought maybe his grandpa was right. However, he wasn’t sure how he could test whether his schoolmates were real friends or not, so he asked his grandpa. Second, is the goal(目標(biāo)) you are trying to reach the right one? Try to do some thinking about what your real goals may be. Think about this question: "If I am successful in this, where will it get me?" This may help to prevent failure in the things you shouldn't be doing anyway.
