Imagine the situation. You are driving along a desert or on a mountain. You have no idea where you are.You passed the last house two hours ago. Then your car breaks down.It is night and it is cold. You have no mobile phone. What do you do? Well, next time take a GPS with you. This invention may be able to help you.It is a device which uses satellites to find the user’s position. It can find your position to within 20 metres.A GPS cannot start your car, but at least you will know where you are.
GPS, which means Global Positioning System, is a small radio receiver. It looks like a mobile phone. You can hold it in your hand, or put in your pocket. It is sometimes put into a watch or a telephone. We also find GPS devices in cars, planes, or boats. Some of these devices have electronic maps, so you know where you are.For example, in a city they can tell you the name of the street.
There are three parts to the Global Positioning System. The first part is the receiver. You can hold it in your hand, or have it fixed into your car, plane, etc.The second part is a group of satellites orbiting the Earth. The receiver contacts at least four of the satellites and calculates (計算) its position. The third part of the system is a network of ground stations. They are all over the world. They control the satellites and make sure they are working well.
Some people think that in the future the GPS will be as common as the mobile. They are becoming cheaper and more and more accurate (精確的).There are also new uses for the GPS.Perhaps they will become like watches. Everyone will have one and you will never be lost again.

Going green seems to be fad(時尚) for a lot of people these days. Whether that is good or bad, we can’t really say, but for the two of us, going green is not a fad but a lifestyle.
On April 22, 2011, we decided to go green every day for a whole year. This meant doing 365 different green things, and it also meant challenging ourselves to go green beyond easy things. Rather than recycle and reduce our energy, we had to think of 365 different green things to do and this was no easy task.
With the idea of going green every day for a year, Our Green Year started. My wife and I decided to educate people about how they could go green in their lives and hoped we could show people all the green things that could be done to help the environment. We wanted others to know that every little bit helps.
Over the course of Our Green Year, we completely changed our lifestyle. We now shop at organic(有機的) stores. We eat less meat and choose green food. We have greatly reduced our buying we don’t need. We have given away half of what we owned through websites. Our home is kept clean by vinegar(醋) and lemon juice, with no chemical cleaners(化學(xué)清潔劑). We make our own butter, enjoying the smell of home-made fresh bread. In our home, anyone caught doing something ungreen might be punished.
Our minds have been changed by Our Green Year. We are thankful for the chance to have been able to go green and educate others. We believe that we do have the power to change things and help our planet.

A. They sold their home-made food.
B. They paid no attention to others’ ungreen actions.

4.What can we infer from the last paragraph?
A. The couple may continue their project in the future.
B. The government will give support to the green people.
C. Some people don’t agree with the couple’s green ideas.
D. Most people in their country are interested in Our Green Year.
