Did you sleep the day away on March 21? Well,you should have done because it was World Sleeping Day. This is the one day of the year when people around the world care about their sleep,and ask themselves a lot of questions about sleep.
Why do we need sleep? Nobody can give a perfect answer to it. However,tests have shown that lack (缺少) of sleep over about four weeks leads to a strong drop in body temperature,great weight loss and finally,sickness.
Different people need different amounts of sleep. Eight hours a night is considered the average (平均) amount of sleep. For teenagers,the least number of sleeping hours advised by doctors are: ten hours for primary school students,nine for junior highs and eight for senior highs.
Some people seem to get along just fine with very little sleep at night. Leading American scientist Thomas Edison said that sleep was a waste of time. He did,however take naps during the day. On the other hand,Albert Einstein,another great scientist,said he needed at least ten hours' sleep a night.
Here are some of the most useful suggestions for a good night's sleep: Go to bed at the same time; Don't exercise in the evening;Keep the bedroom dark and quiet;Drink a glass of milk before sleep;Stop looking at the watch while you can't sleep!

A Miss Green;
Good morning,everybody!Today,for our writing class,we are glad to have Mr Henry Stone with us,a wellknown writer in this country. He is going to share with us his writing experiences. Now,Henry,please tell us how you find so many interesting things for your stories?
Mr Stone:
Okay. I watch people a lot. I do that when I travel. I've been to many countries such asBritain,ItalyandSweden,so I spend a lot of time at airports. While waiting for my flights,I watch people passing by and start my imagination. For example,the other day when I was waiting for my flight toGreece,I saw a couple. They were buying magazines at that moment. They were not wearing business clothes but the man was carrying a suitcase. Every few seconds the woman looked around. I wondered if someone was following them. Perhaps they were running away and .... You know,this reminded me of a story in the newspaper that day. A bank clerk stole one million pounds a week ago and disappeared with his wife. There was a picture of them in the paper. The couple really looked like the thieves. Maybe I should stop them. Just then,I saw them say goodbye to each other,and the woman walked away. Well,sometimes I make mistakes like that. But I find things like that very useful for my writing.
