Are you the type of person who easily gets less confident by negative(消極的) advice? Follow this short lesson about self confidence.
Henry Ward Beecher was a well-known American churchman, social reformer(改革者) and speaker in the middle of the 19th century. When he was a young boy in school, he learned a lesson which he never forgot.
Once he was called up to recite(背誦) in front of the class. When he recited only a few lines, the teacher interrupted with a forceful "No!" He started over and again the teacher shouted, "No!" Ashamed, Henry sat down.
The next boy rose to recite and had just begun when the teacher shouted, "No!" This student, however, kept on reciting until he completed it. As he sat down, the teacher replied, "Very good!"
Henry was angry. "I recited just as he did," he complained to the teacher.
But the teacher replied, "It is not enough to know your lesson, you must be sure. When you allowed me to stop you, it meant that you were uncertain, if the world says, No! it is your business to say Yes! and prove it."
The world will say, "No!" in a thousand ways.
"No! You can't do that."
"No! You are wrong."
"No! You are too young."
"No! You don't have the education."
"No! You don't have the ability."
"No! You don't have the money."
"No! You can't work it out."
And each "No!" you hear has the possibility to weaken your confidence bit by bit until you give up all together.
When the world says, "No!" to you, you should be strong-minded to say, "Yes!" and prove it.

We know that there are too many Net bars(網(wǎng)吧)around us. The Internet makes our lives interesting. Many of us like going online very much because we can learn how to use the computer. We can learn English and read some newspapers and magazines to know more information around us. It can make us clever in playing computer games. Also when we send e-mails to our friends, they can get them right away. It can help us keep in touch with people from all over the world.
But some students spend too much time in playing computer games and some stay in the Net bars all day and all night. It takes them too much time to chat online so they do worse in their lessons and they don’t study well any more. I think we mustn’t get online when it is time for us to study. We can do it in summer or winter holidays. I think we should get online with our teachers or parents.
At the same time, if we have lots of free time, we can do some activities after school. We usually have activities from 4:50 to 5:50 in the afternoon. We can play basketball or football. We also have some interest groups in school, such as drawing, singing and dancing. We can go to the English corner on Monday afternoon. I hope we can spend more time on our subjects or on such activities that we can learn a lot from and less time on the Internet.
