Sky and Canfield are two seaside towns, not far from each other. Both towns have many hotels, and in the summer the hotels are full of holidaymakers and other people.
Last August there was a fire at the Star Hotel in Sky. The next day, this news was on page two of the town's newspaper―The Sky Post: Fire at Star.
Late last night firemen (消防隊(duì)員) hurried to the Star Hotel and quickly put out a small fire in a bedroom. The hotel manager said that a cigarette (香煙) started the fire. We say again to all our visitors, "Please don't smoke cigarettes in bed."This was Sky's first hotel fire for five years.
The Canfield Times gave the news in these words on page one: Another Sky Hotel Catches Fire.
Last night Sky firemen arrived just too late to save clothing, bedclothes and other things at the Star Hotel. An angry holidaymaker said, "An electric lamp (電燈) probably started the fire. The bedroom lamps are very old at some of these hotels. When I put my bedside light on,I heard a funny noise from the lamp."We are glad to tell our readers that this kind of accident does not happen in Canfield.
What are the facts, then? It is never easy to find out the exact truth about an accident. There was a fire at the Star Hotel last August, that is one fact. Do we know anything else? Yes―we know that firemen went to the hotel. Now what do you think of the rest of the "news"?

My father woke me up early one summer morning when I was fourteen and announced, u Get up,you're going with me to cut grass."
The idea that my father actually thought I was old enough to help him in his business made me feel proud and excited. From sunrise,my father,my younger brother and I worked in the large yards,in a rich part of Atlanta,Georgia. By the end of the day I was tired out,but I felt well. I had put in a day's hard work and had earned $6.
One day my father found some leaves I'd missed and pulled me aside. uClear away these leaves," he said seriously, "and don't make me have to tell you to do it again."The message was clear. Today I value the importance of doing a job right the first time. It will never fail to impress (給. 留下印象) the person you are working for.
After two years my father told my brother and me that he felt we were old enough to do lawns (草坪) on our own. Every Saturday during my last year of high school, when I was 18 ,we set out early in the morning every day.
Taking care of lawns was not exciting or highpaying, but that didn't matter. It taught me that any job's a good job and that whatever I was paid was more than I had before.
A newspaper reporter once asked me how someone could possibly live on a forty-hour-a-week minimum (最低) pay, "My father never worked just forty hours a week, and neither have 1 ," I replied, "If you're only working forty hours a week, you probably don't want to do any better than you are doing."In every job I've had, from doing lawns to washing dishes,I have learned something that helps me in my next job. Once,a group of boys decided to play a soccer game. Each of them would bring something used in the match. So one would bring the ball, another the whistle, others the goalkeeper gloves, the corner flags.
But while they were picking the teams, there was an argument. They decided that the boy who had brought the most important object would pick the teams. However they couldn't choose which had been the most important object,so they decided to start playing and gradually drop what they had brought,to see which things were truly needed.
The first thing they dropped was the whistle, because the judge could just shout instead. Then the goalkeeper gloves, they managed to save the ball just as well without them. Neither did they really notice when they stopped using the corner flags. Finally they even replaced the football with an old tin (易拉罐) ,and still managed to keep playing.
When they were playing with the tin,a man and his son passed by. Seeing the boys playing like that, the man said to his son, "Look, son. Learn from those kids. Without even a ball they're managing to play football, even though they're never going to be able to improve playing in that way."
The boys heard what he said, and realized that because of their pride, what could have been a great match had turned into a shameful display, which they were hardly enjoying at all. At that moment, they decided to give up their selfish opinions, and to start playing the match again, from the start and with all the necessary objects.
And it really was a great game. No one thought about who was playing better or worse. Rather, they just paid attention to having fun and improving their game.
When doing things together, the important thing is to make sure things turn out for the best, rather than argue about how much each person has contributed.
