An eight-year-old boy named Liangliang liked watching cartoons every day instead of doing his homework, so his mother stopped him from watching cartoons. Liangliang called the police to take his mother away—such a “good reason” to call the police.
Most people would just laugh it off. However, it shows that something is wrong with our education. It rings alarm to our Chinese parents to think about it.
Parents should ask themselves why they’re so angry when their kids want to watch cartoons instead of doing homework. Kids are supposed to be simple and naughty(頑皮). They can just ask their kids to do things they expect them to do. Schoolwork is important but a healthy childhood is much more important. If they push their kids too hard, the kids will not listen to them. Instead, parents should spend some time talking to their kids and help them grow in a good way. It’s also a good way to help parents themselves to grow, too.
In China, lots of parents care more about scores(分?jǐn)?shù)) than any other things. They hope their kids can be top students and go to the top colleges. Curriculum Reformation(課改) is coming though, and it would bring some changes to our schools. It’s also time for parents to change their minds to reduce pressure(減輕壓力) on their kids and help them to grow happily and naturally.
1.When Liangliang watched cartoons, his mother______.
A. called the police for help
B. watched with him
C. didn’t allow him to do so
D. didn’t stop him doing so
2.According to the passage, if parents push their kids too hard, ______.
A. the kids will be more careful
B. the kids will not follow them
C. the kids will get better grades
D. the kids will grow in a good way
3.Parents can reduce pressure on their kids by ______.
A. changing their own minds
B. caring about scores
C. helping the kids go to the top colleges
D. helping the kids to be top students
4.The main idea of the passage is that ______.
A. kids can call the police if they are angry with their parents
B. parents should not care about scores any more
C. kids should be allowed to watch cartoons
D. parents should help kids to grow happily and naturally

That cold January night, it seemed I was growing sick of my life in San Francisco. There I was, walking home at one in the morning after a tiring practice at the theater. With opening night only a week away, I was still learning my lines. I was having trouble dealing with my part-time job at the bank and my acting at night at the same time. As I walked, I thought seriously about giving up both acting and San Francisco. City life had become too much for me.
As I walked down empty streets under tall buildings, I felt very small and cold. I began running, both to keep warm and to keep away any possible robbers(搶劫犯). Very few people were still out except a few sad-looking homeless people under blankets.
About a block from my apartment, I heard a sound behind me. I turned quickly, half expecting to see someone with a knife or a gun. The street was empty. All I saw was a shining streetlight. Still, the noise had made me nervous, so I started to run faster. Not until I reached my apartment building and unlocked the door did I realize what the noise had been. It had been my wallet falling to the sidewalk.
Suddenly I wasn’t cold or tired anymore. I ran out of the door and back to where I’d heard the noise. Although I searched the sidewalk anxiously for fifteen minutes, my wallet was nowhere to be found.
Just as I was about to give up the search, I heard the garbage truck(垃圾車) pull up to the sidewalk next to me. When a voice called from the inside, “Alisa Camacho?” I thought I was dreaming. How could this man know my name? The door opened, and out jumped a small red-haired man with an amused look in his eyes. “Is this what you’re looking for?” he asked, holding up a small square shape.
It was nearly 3 a.m. by the time I got into bed. I wouldn’t get much sleep that night, but I had got my wallet back. I also had got back some enjoyment of city life. I realized that the city couldn’t be a bad place as long as people were willing to help each other.

North American black bears are shy animals. They are fearful by nature, and will usually run away if they see or hear people. Because of this, it can be difficult for scientists to learn about these animals.
In order to study black bears, researchers from New Jersey, USA, catch bears and use drugs (毒品) to help them go to sleep. Researchers then work out the size and the weight of the bear, take blood to test for diseases, remove a tooth and take it to the lab to find out its age. From these studies, researchers want to find out how many bears live in New Jersey, how long they live, and how many babies they produce.
But in Minnesota, USA, researchers study bears that are completely awake. The bears know the researchers' voices and they are not afraid of die research team. With the help of a few grapes to keep the bears busy, researchers can touch them to check their hearts, look at their teeth , and do other jobs. Researchers can also walk or sit with bears for hours and make videos to learn about their everyday lives.
In both places, the main purpose is the same—to make sure there is a healthy population of black bears. But the research methods and the kinds of information that researchers, are able to collect are quite different.
